government approved school prayer

From The War on the West by Douglas Murray.

A very wise friend died during the COVID pandemic, Indian-born
economist Deepak Lal. In his later years Prof Lal chortled unstoppably when discussing the latest idiocies afflicting America’s universities. “Everybody claims that after the age of Christianity, we are going to enter an age of atheism. Whereas it is perfectly clear that we are entering an age of polytheism. Everybody has their own gods now.”

After the central religious stories of the West were expunged, the culture became entirely hollowed out. It is amazing how empty and flimsy the ideas are that have flooded in to fill their place. In the name of great openness we became close minded. In the name of progress, we absorbed ideas that are highly regressive.

One example.

2021 the State Board of Education in California adopted a model
curriculum in Ethnic Studies that included prayers to Aztec gods. The “affirmations, chants and energizers” were meant to bring the class together and “build unity around ethnic studies principles and values.”

These prayers included the “In Lak Ech Affirmation” an Aztec prayer calling on Tezkatlipoka, Quetzalkoatl, Huitzilopochtli, Xipe Totek and Hunab Ku. These Aztec gods are invoked and petitioned to help provide “strength that allows us to transform and renew.”

California public school students might be surprised by what they summon up. The claps and chants to Tezkatlipoka are meant to enable students to be “warriors for social justice.” Tezkatlipoka was traditionally worshiped with human sacrifices and great feasts of cannibalism.

Students might also be surprised that while their prayers to Huitzilopochtli asked that god for “healing epistemologies” and a “revolutionary spirit”, back in the day the Aztecs celebrated this god as a god of war in whose honor they performed hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices.

One might like to presume the California State Board of Education has no idea what it is doing. Worse to consider, even for a moment, that it does. ~
